Running the Diamond Hart Ranch has always come first. Sunrise to sunset, every decision I make is for the ranch, and I’ve never questioned whether there should be room for anything else. Then Payton Campbell and her eight-year-old son, Wacey, move in next door for the summer. 

Wacey doesn’t speak, but he doesn't have to. Somewhere between teaching him to ride, surprising him with his own horse, and watching him come alive in the barn, the quiet kid works his way into my heart. 

And before I know it, so does his mom.

For the first time in years, I catch myself wanting more than what the ranch can offer. I want dinners around the table, little boots by the front door, and someone to come home to at the end of the day.

But one mistake might cost me the trust I’ve worked so hard to earn. As Payton weighs whether to return to Oklahoma for good, I have to decide just how far I’m willing to go to keep the family I’ve fallen in love with.
